Piano arrangement: A syncopated piece with a good part of the melody played by the left hand - not easy but very rewarding
This beautiful piece about the disillusionment of Xmas was arranged by Emerson Lake and Palmer (EL&P) based on an older classical piece called Troika. This was written by the Russian composer Prokofiev in 1934 with the sleigh bells having always been associated with Xmas. Check out YouTube for the orchestral original. Just occasionally you have a more modern cover vastly improve on the original (as when Shakespeare re-wrote the well known story of Romeo-And-Juliet). And to modern ears EL&Ps I-Believe-In-Father-Christmas did just that. Audio recordings of them in the studio are few and far between and the only copy I have found is a very poor recording of a live performance. Still, worth tracking down on iTunes if you are unfamiliar with it and a great help with perfecting the difficult timing of the left hand melody. A great piece to learn, sounds great as a solo piano piece (even without an orchestra to back you)... And the lyrics remain so very true: The-Christmas-you-get,-you-deserve...
