Great melody for classical nylong string guitar
7/5/2009 8:43:27 PMAshokan Farewell is one of those songs that seems to sound best when played on a nylon string classical guitar or an unamplifed fiddle. This haunting, melancholy song has the same "aura" that I find when I play Don McLeans "Starry, Starry Night" on my solo guitar. This simple melody...when played with very SLOW, un-metered passion, can bring tears to the listeners eyes. I suggest that you consider playing this wonderful ballad outdoors on a moonlit night, when the mood is right or when the audience is attentive and silent. Its a remarkably, uniquely memorable piece that is destined to become a classic. Though people recognize this song because they have heard it before, they ALWAYS ask the name of it...because few people know this songs title. Amazing, isnt it?
