Tango on the Bayou!

Before I downloaded and started to play this version of Roy Orbisons great wistful tune, two years ago, I never would have thought to add a tango beat underneath it; now I cant hear it any other way. I like to use many of the piano solos I download from MusicNotes in the same way I use recipes: if it looks good, it becomes a springboard for ideas about how to cook it up my own way. On this piece, I double the melody of the chorus in octaves on the repeat, for variation, and I add more chords to the left hand tango rythym for a fuller, richer sound the second time around in the refrain. And, why not: the dynamics as marked at the end are pretty non-committal, leaving the performer to decide to go big, or fade out quietly. I end it with a tonic chord "Cha-cha-cha," big or quiet, depending on where Im playing and who Im playing for, and my mood at the time. I dont memorize a lot of music any more, but for this fun piece, it just happened.
